Ashley Schmidt Signs Letter of Intent with Grayson County College
Ashley Schmidt, a 2006 graduate of J. J. Pearce and two year starter for the Varsity Softball team, signed a letter of intent in June with Grayson County College, a NJCAA Division I school. Ashley joined the squad for workouts beginning in early August. The team also competed in a rigorous 16 game fall schedule, which included round robin tournaments in Durant, OK and Paris, TX, where the team of freshman and sophomores battled with Division III University squads as well as NJCAA Division I competition. Ashley is playing first base, as she did for the Mustangs, as well as seeing time behind the plate as the back-up catcher. Grayson is in the North Texas Conference of NJCAA Region V and has enjoyed success with a strong baseball program. With a new coach this season Grayson is working to do the same with softball in this competitive conference. Ashley is working towards an Associates Degree in Forensic Science and hopes to pursue her scholastic and softball career at one of Texas' fine four year universities.
Rachael Grimes Commits to Play for Angelo State University
Senior Rachael Grimes has had an eight year goal of playing softball at the college level. After countless numbers of games and tournaments, Rachael has realized her goal and is now continuing her softball career by committing to play for Angelo State University. Rachael looks forward to being a part of Angelo State's winning softball program. Rachael made a brave comeback last spring after suffering a serious facial injury from a line-drive ball in February. After major facial surgery, Rachael returned to the field just one month later and finished the season 3rd in District 10-5A batting averages. She was also named to the First Team All District and was awarded Pearce Offensive MVP.
